I love to share news. I had a 5th birthday and I was given a pedal car. I race quickly with my sister who has one too.

I wonder how many "Thank You" stones our table has this week. We work hard to collect them by being the best we can be in all we do.

Catch Up

Term 3 was so much fun and packed with new experiences, new learning and new little people starting school.

We had an amazing time making costumes for the Wearable Art Show. We used the story of Red Riding Hood to be able to use recycled material to create our designs.  The discussions and designs were well thought out.  The children learnt a great deal about recycling, how important it is and as a 5 year old, how much fun you can have making something new from something old.   We were very proud of them going under the bright lights of the stage to share their creations with the school community.

In maths the children used many different things to help them to have fun with numbers.  They have a been learning all of the groupings to 5 and within 5, counting forwards and backwards from 10 and finding out what comes before and after a given number.  We have looked at patterns to 10 and used ice block sticks, glass stones, counters and blocks to name a few to reinforce the learning.  Using the 100's board is always a source of great excitement.  The class love to count up to the "high" numbers as they call it and love to learn to count backwards too.  That however, is more of a challenge so we take it slowly.

Our alphabet and phonemic sound work is progressing well.  We do rhymes and body movements every day to reinforce the sounds of letters.  It is great fun just using the body signals for letters so the children find themselves spelling words and being so proud of themselves.  It is good to have the support of home to reinforce the learning going on during the day and as parents you can see the joy that little ones have when they realise they are learning to read!

There is never a dull day in Room 12.  Each day brings its own challenges, excitement and fun.  The children learn a lot, laugh a lot and look after each other in so many ways.  What more can you ask for in school!

High Frequency Words

We try to make learning fun. The children often spread out all the words they know and see how fast they can say them. When they make a mistake the next person has a go. They then collect all the ones they know and love counting them up.

Writing is fun and hard work.

Haum uses her chalkboard to practise her writing. Using chalk enables pressure to be exerted on to the board and so enables children to take their time to form letters correctly. You are a star.

Tia becomes Rainbow Riding Hood

Tia wanted to become Rainbow Riding Hood and so created a costume that was so colourful. She showed great perseverance.

Esther loved every moment of creating a costume to be Red Riding Hood. She was patient and cut many cupcake wrappers to make flowers. She looked beautiful.

Our class took the story of Red Riding Hood and the children made their own costumes as a Technology focus. Seung Min had great ideas as to how his costume of a Wood-Cutter should look. Good for you.

Cooper has been intrigued with the size of the dinosaur bone since he started school.  You are a "hot thinker" Cooper and do a great job sharing what you feel about the bone.

Oral language is so vital to young children as they start school.  We find all sorts of ways of expanding the children's thinking, their vocabulary and sharing what they feel.

Kindness and Thank You stones

In Room 12 we use little glass stones and pop them in a pot each time the children are "caught" being kind, thoughtful, making good decisions, using self control and helping each other. There are endless ways and opportunities to "shine" in class. They help to reinforce the importance of our school Vision and Values. When the pot is full we count them out in groups of tens. It gives the children a visual experience of seeing how what they do matters and affects other people. The stones help to reinforce the fact that we are all part of a community and we need to be aware of how we treat each other. It is proving to be a wonderful success and the children delight in being acknowledged for who they are. They encourage each other to be the best person they can. Today we counted out 191 stones. What a mission when you are only 5, but so enjoyable.

We had our first lesson using iPads today.  The children took to it so quickly and have taken a few photos already.  They are learning to record what they view and want to share it.

Welcome to Room12's Blog

Hi de Hi Campers

Here we are starting our first attempt at blogging.  It's going to be a journey for each of us as we learn together how to share our learning and our fun times.

So far we are a class of 4 and are camping in a block 3 while the original pod is being repaired. We have made our new room home and are enjoying getting to know each other.  The children and I are so excited about being at school and we are all new to the school at the same time.  We are so involved in learning that it gives us brain ache at the end of the day but so much joy.

The children come to school with such passion to embrace their journey of being life-long learners and we can all support the excitement of supporting them on that path.

We as teachers are here as partners with our families to support your children in their learning.   Please don't be a stranger to our classroom. Come and enjoy your child's learning.  The little ones love to share what they have been doing.  Know you are welcome and important to our school.
